US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States is holding negotiations with Iran "via phone," but he expressed reservations about the results, saying, "I'm not sure we'll reach an agreement."
Trump clarified in statements that he is unsure if an agreement with Tehran can be reached, pointing out sharp divisions within the Iranian leadership. The American President expressed his dissatisfaction with the current course of the talks, explaining, "I am not satisfied with Iran's latest proposal." Trump described the Iranian leadership as suffering from a state of "confusion," adding: "Iranian leaders are divided and not in agreement with each other." He pointed to conflicting currents within Tehran, saying, "There are those who want to negotiate, but they are confused." On Friday, official Iranian media reported that Tehran had submitted a new proposal to the United States for negotiation through Pakistani mediation, as part of efforts to end the war, amid a mutual escalation in statements between the two sides. The "IRNA" news agency stated that Tehran had submitted "its latest negotiation proposals to Pakistan as a mediator," without disclosing further details. In contrast, media reports indicated that the delay in the Iranian proposal was due to the difficulty of reaching Mojtaba Khamenei. This comes against the backdrop of a stalemate in the negotiation track between the two sides, with each side adhering to its conditions, which opens the door to open scenarios.
