The Spanish city of Alicante hosted a high-level cultural meeting that brought together a selection of Moroccan and Spanish writers and publishers, as part of a series of roundtables organized at “Casa Mediterraneo”, at the initiative of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Valencia, within the framework of efforts to strengthen the bridges of literary and cultural exchange between the two countries.
This meeting was an opportunity to open an in-depth discussion about the dynamics of cultural interaction between the two sides of the Mediterranean Sea, by highlighting key themes, most notably Moroccan literature written in Spanish, Spanish literature dealing with the Moroccan space, in addition to exploring the horizons of developing joint literary projects that enhance this creative intersection. The participants in this cultural event confirmed the pivotal role played by arts and literature as a space for dialogue and mutual understanding, highlighting the common human and cultural denominators that transcend geographical boundaries and support rapprochement between peoples. They also stressed that the growing movement in the Moroccan-Spanish literary scene has become a basic lever for strengthening bilateral cultural relations. In the same context, the interveners addressed the manifestations of linguistic and cultural convergence between Arabic and Spanish, considering it an important pillar for deepening human communication, while a number of Spanish writers expressed their admiration for Morocco as a rich and fertile source of inspiration in their creative experiences. It is expected that the work of this meeting will culminate in the preparation of a scientific article and the issuance of a collective work that documents the various interventions, in a step that aims to consolidate this cultural dialogue and ensure its continuity, in a way that enhances the presence of literature as a bridge for communication between the two banks.
