On Friday, the Spanish authorities repatriated five Algerian minors to their country, approximately eight months after their arrival on the island of Ibiza by boat, as part of an irregular migration journey towards the Spanish coasts, in which seven minors originally participated.
The Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reported that the repatriation process was carried out after completing the legal procedures in force, in coordination between the competent authorities in both countries. The details of this incident date back to last September, when seven minors undertook an illegal migration journey from the "Lapérouse" beach east of the Algerian capital, where they stole a small boat and sailed it at night towards the Spanish coasts, in a risky adventure. In a related context, the Algerian Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Said Sayout, announced last October that an agreement had been reached with the Spanish side, providing for the repatriation of irregular Algerian minors to Algeria, within the framework of bilateral cooperation to address illegal immigration files, especially those involving minors.
