Spanish National Police officers at the occupied Melilla airport succeeded, on Friday morning, in arresting a forty-year-old who was attempting to smuggle a quantity of hashish.
The detainee, aged 41, was planning to transport the shipment to the Canary Islands, taking Madrid as a transit point for his air journey, before the security alertness thwarted his plan. According to media sources in Melilla, the credit for this arrest goes to the security sense of the border control team, which detected suspicious movements and unnatural behavior of the suspect inside the airport corridors early in the morning. This confusion prompted the security elements to subject him to a thorough search that resulted in the detection of foreign objects hidden under his clothes in a suspicious manner. Deepening the inspection procedures led to the seizure of six carefully wrapped parcels and secured with adhesive tape in various parts of his body, including the abdomen, back, and legs. It turned out after examination that they contained about 7.5 kilograms of hashish, which was distributed over 697 small pieces prepared in the form of "balutat" and wrapped in transparent plastic to mislead the surveillance devices. After completing the seizure process, the detainee was taken to the police station to deepen the investigation and determine the extent of this criminal activity. Upon referral to the competent judicial authorities, it was decided to detain him in prison pending investigation, to be followed up on charges related to international drug trafficking and the serious threat to public health.
