HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Musaed
The model livestock market in the commune of Ain Beni Mathar witnessed a lively commercial atmosphere and intense activity from breeders, brokers, and citizens who flocked to the market from various regions and directions. This market is considered a major center for the sale of sheep and goats, especially with the approach of occasions where the demand for sacrifices increases.
In a field meeting with one of the breeders present in the market, Muhammad Marouha, he confirmed in his statement to "HIBAPRESS" that the region is distinguished by the quality of its livestock and the diversity of its breeds. Regarding the types of sheep available to him and most of the breeders in the region, he stated, "We have mixed breeds, there is the 'Daghma' sheep and there is 'Barkia' and mixed ones." He also mentioned that the biggest challenge facing livestock breeders recently is the noticeable increase in production costs, explaining that "the expenses of feed are what is difficult for the people," which weighs on the breeder continuously. Regarding the prices of sheep in the market today, the breeder reported that prices vary depending on the quality and size of the sacrifice, to suit all segments of society and the purchasing power of citizens, and the total prices in the market are as follows: Excellent and large sheep: between 5000 and 6000 dirhams. Medium sheep: between 3500 and 4000 dirhams. Small sheep (lambs): ranging between 2600 and 3000 dirhams. The breeder confirmed in his conversation that "it all depends on his effort, and goodness is widespread and available, thank God," which reassures citizens of the presence of multiple options that suit their budgets. The speaker touched on the strategic importance of the Ain Beni Mathar market, describing it as "the capital of the Dhahriya breed" (Beni Mathar/Dhahra breed), where visitors and buyers come to it from all directions, whether from Oujda, Berkane, or other cities and regions, due to the famous quality of the meat of this region and its distinguished breeds.
