Zakia Drouich, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, in charge of Fisheries, received members and representatives of the Professional Maritime Association at the port of Safi on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the headquarters of the Secretariat of State in charge of Fisheries, within the framework of continuing the approach of dialogue and consultation with the various components of the sector.
The meeting discussed several issues related to the development of the fisheries sector, especially the vocational training file in its two aspects related to maritime registration for access to the maritime profession and vocational maritime training in stages with regard to sailors working on board fishing boats, which is the point that saw important interventions that concluded with agreement on the formation of a joint committee to find solutions to address the outstanding problems. The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss a number of points related to the organization and development of fish trade, especially with regard to the organization of commercial transactions within fish markets, training and access to the profession, and combating some illegal practices related to fish trade, as well as topics related to the protection of fish wealth and improving the working conditions of professionals in the sector. During this meeting, the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation with various professional actors was also emphasized, in a way that contributes to finding practical solutions to the constraints raised, and supporting the dynamics of the fisheries sector at the local level, in full harmony with the trends aimed at developing the sector and enhancing its sustainability, and continuing efforts to qualify and develop marketing and valuation chains related to fisheries products.
