HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Elbaz
Several streets and neighborhoods of the city of Beni Mellal have turned in recent days into hotspots for an invasion of strange insects that have spread extensively on trees and around public spaces, in a scene that has angered and dismayed the residents who found themselves facing a disturbing situation that threatens the comfort and health safety of citizens.
Local sources confirmed that the aforementioned insects are falling heavily due to the wind, causing cases of itching and continuous annoyance, especially among passersby and residents of neighboring areas, amid increasing fears of potential health and environmental repercussions in light of the continuation of the phenomenon without tangible intervention.
The wave of spread included a number of main axes in the city, including Mohammed VI Street and Al-Oyoun Street, where citizens expressed their astonishment at the slow movement of the concerned authorities, demanding that local authorities, health services, and the community break their silence and urgently intervene to spray the trees and eliminate these insects before the situation worsens and turns into a real environmental and health crisis.
Observers believe that the repetition of such phenomena raises big questions about the effectiveness of environmental monitoring and maintenance programs in the city, at a time when the residents are waiting for urgent field measures instead of settling for a state of anticipation and silence.
