HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The Criminal Chamber of First Instance in charge of financial crimes at the Court of Appeal in Kenitra, on Tuesday afternoon, acquitted the mayor of the city of Sidi Slimane, Yassine El Radhi, and others, of the charges against them in a case related to embezzlement and squandering of public funds, forgery and abuse of power.
The initial ruling included the dropping of various charges that the public prosecutor had brought against the accused, which included embezzlement and squandering of public funds, forgery of official documents and their use, forgery of customary and administrative documents and their use, in addition to abuse of power. This judicial decision comes after lengthy sessions that witnessed the discussion of a number of data and documents related to the case, amid widespread public attention in the city of Sidi Slimane, given the political position held by the mayor. The ruling sparked mixed reactions, as the defense of the accused considered it a confirmation of their innocence of the charges against them, and this case is among the issues that have attracted the attention of those following local and national affairs, especially in light of the escalating debate about issues of public affairs management and linking responsibility to accountability.
