HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
A recent annual report by the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration for the year 2025 revealed a noticeable increase in the seizure of smuggled goods, with a total value of 388 million dirhams, an increase of 36.6 percent compared to 2024. This indicates a rise in the effectiveness of field interventions and intensified monitoring efforts.
The report clarified that these results were achieved by adopting a more precise approach in targeting suspicious operations, supported by the intensive use of information and enhanced use of modern monitoring technologies, especially non-intrusive methods, in addition to improving coordination between various customs departments. Integrating risk analysis tools also contributed to raising the efficiency of operations while maintaining the smooth flow of regular trade exchanges. Regarding the fight against counterfeit goods, the same data reported the handling of 697 files concerning the suspension of the free circulation of goods of questionable origin, with the activation of 71 procedures that resulted in the seizure of approximately 896,000 counterfeit items, with a total value of approximately 11.1 million dirhams. These seizures included, in particular, mobile phones, clothing, fabrics, in addition to perfume products. The report also highlighted that these efforts were strengthened by organizing training and awareness activities, as well as engaging in international operations in partnership with specialized organizations, including “Interpol” through “PANGEA” operation, and the World Customs Organization through “STOP IV” operation, especially in the field of combating counterfeit medicines and counterfeit pharmaceutical products, within a comprehensive approach aimed at protecting the consumer and the national economy.
