The Royal Army failed to win the African Champions League title, after drawing against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa with a score of one goal to one, in the second leg of the final hosted by the "Prince Moulay Abdellah" stadium in Rabat, this Sunday evening. The guest team won the title with an aggregate score of (2-1), after its victory in the first leg by one goal to nil.
The match witnessed a strong start from the military team, which exerted high pressure and created real scoring opportunities during the first half, before the captain, Rabie Hrimat, succeeded in opening the scoring in the 40th minute from the penalty spot, giving the advantage to the hosts and igniting the atmosphere of the stands. Before the end of the first half, Mamelodi Sundowns was able to equalize through Teboho Mokoena in the 45th+7 minute, taking advantage of an organized attack that brought the match back to a point of tie before entering the dressing rooms. In the second half, the Royal Army intensified its offensive attempts in search of a second goal to restore balance in the aggregate of the two matches, and increased the pressure on the defense of the South African team, before obtaining a decisive penalty in the 75th minute. However, Rabie Hrimat failed to convert the opportunity into a second goal, after the penalty was wasted, and with it, hopes of returning to the result vanished, in a moment that formed a decisive turning point in the stages of the match. With the last minutes passing without a change in the result, the match ended in a tie (1-1), and Mamelodi Sundowns was crowned with the African Champions League title benefiting from the result of the first leg, while the Royal Army was satisfied with being the runner-up of the championship.
