HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyaoui
The Criminal Appeals Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fes issued a decision on Tuesday, accepting the appeal in part, with a declaration of acquittal for Jawad Al-Dawahi, the head of the Regional Council of the Moulay Yacoub Prefecture, of what was attributed to him, and lifting the seizure procedures on his real estate, movable property and bank accounts.
This judicial decision comes to confirm the soundness of his legal position, after a long period of follow-up that aroused the interest of local public opinion, where the court concluded that he should not be held accountable for the charges against him.
Observers also considered that this ruling constitutes an entrenchment of the principle of the presumption of innocence and respect for the independence of the judiciary, and enhances confidence in judicial institutions as the primary guarantor of rights and freedoms.
The decision has caused widespread satisfaction among a number of those following local affairs, who considered that the next stage requires the continuation of development work and serving the issues of the population with a spirit of responsibility and commitment.
