HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed on Thursday that the United States and Iran have not yet reached a final agreement, but he indicated that the negotiations between the two parties have made significant progress and are approaching an understanding.
Vance said in statements to reporters that Washington is now in a position that enables it to significantly limit the capabilities of the Iranian nuclear program, adding that some issues are still pending, especially regarding Tehran's stockpile of enriched uranium and the enrichment file. These statements come at a time when American sources reported on Thursday that the United States and Iran had reached a preliminary agreement to extend the ceasefire and lift restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, pending the approval of US President Donald Trump. Vance explained that the talks are still ongoing regarding some formulations and details, saying: "It is difficult to determine the date of signing the memorandum of understanding or even to be certain of its approval, but we have made great progress." The US Vice President expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement, stressing that he cannot guarantee that at present, but he hopes for continued progress that will allow the President to make a decision to approve the agreement, while acknowledging that the final result has not yet been decided.
