United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday called for restraint and de-escalation following the recent rise in tensions in the Middle East region.
“All efforts should instead lead to a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all Israeli hostages, a massive increase in humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza and a return to calm in Lebanon and across the Blue Line,” the UN chief said in a statement read by his spokesperson at a briefing.
In this context, he urged to exercise the utmost restraint and to work actively towards a regional de-escalation in the interest of long-term peace and stability for all.
Mr. Guterres further called on the international community to engage in comprehensive diplomatic action to lead to de-escalation in the region.
