Khadija Al-Mardi apologized to Moroccans while shedding tears after her defeat in the quarter-finals of the boxing competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Khadija Al-Mardi was knocked out of the 75kg quarter-finals by Australia’s Caitlin Parker, who won unanimously in all three rounds.
Al-Mardi said in a televised statement: “I ask forgiveness from everyone and from the Moroccan supporters, but it was not my destiny to be Olympic champion.”
She added: “I made my efforts and lost 30 kilos of my weight to become an Olympic champion, and I ask forgiveness from my daughters, my husband, my parents, all the Moroccan people and King Mohammed VI, and I hope that God will compensate me. Good.”
Al-Mardi concluded his statement: “I was present in the fight and I have a great desire to win. “I cry now because I fought to become Olympic champion and because I did not make the Moroccan people and my family happy.”
