HIBAPRESS – Abdel Latif El Bazz
Italian authorities arrested a 32-year-old man of Moroccan origin on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a 65-year-old man in the city of Udine, northeastern Italy.
According to informed sources, the victim was on his way home carrying shopping bags when he was subjected to a violent assault that resulted in serious chest injuries. Despite being quickly transported to Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital, he died from his injuries.
The suspect fled the scene of the crime before security forces were able to apprehend him at a train station in the city of Basiliano.
Investigations are examining the possibility that the crime is linked to a past romantic relationship between the suspect and the victim's sister, after the latter ended the relationship about a month ago. Investigators are also looking into death threats suspected of being directed at her, and an incident of damage to a family member's car the day before the crime.
The Carabinieri found a screwdriver with traces of blood at the scene of the assault, while the Public Prosecutor continues her investigations to determine the murder weapon and the motive behind it.
The suspect remains presumed innocent until a final judicial ruling is issued.
