HIBAPRESS-Abdellatif Baraka
The election campaign for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23 kicked off on Thursday, September 10, amidst a new political atmosphere that will see intensive movements by candidates and party list representatives in various regions of the Kingdom, with the aim of presenting their programs and communicating with voters before the ballot.
In the Souss-Massa region, the start of the campaign coincides with the holding of a number of weekly markets, which are a regular meeting point for residents of douars and rural areas to meet their needs and purchase household essentials. This gives the electoral scene in the region a special character, as these spaces naturally turn into gathering points that candidates can utilize for direct communication with citizens and to listen to their expectations.
Among the most prominent of these stations is the Thursday market of Oulad Teima in the province of Taroudant, which witnesses a wide turnout from the residents of Houara and the surrounding douars and areas, in addition to the Thursday market of Ait Amira in the province of Chtouka Ait Baha, where a large number of citizens flock weekly.
These markets witnessed a remarkable presence of candidates and party representatives, as part of their communication tours, especially since direct communication allows voters to raise their issues and expectations away from closed electoral meetings.
The coincidence of the start of the campaign with the weekly markets constitutes an important stage for the competitors in Souss-Massa, in light of the efforts of various parties to reach the largest possible number of voters, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, where weekly markets remain prominent spaces that bring together citizens from various areas at a regular appointment.
