HIBAPRESS – Tangier
The railway link project between Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport and Tangier City station has taken a new step towards implementation, after the National Office of Railways launched the pre-qualification procedure for companies wishing to undertake the infrastructure and civil engineering works for the project.
The works have been divided into three phases, within tender number 26T027/PLGV, with the files for the first phase to be opened on October 1st, where the candidate companies' possession of the required technical experience and references will be verified before moving to the stage of competing for the execution of the works.
The Office requires applying companies to provide references proving the execution of similar projects in terms of the nature, volume, and complexity of the works, including the execution of at least two projects valued at over 300 million dirhams each, excluding taxes.
The project aims to directly link Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport with Tangier City station, which will enable the integration of the airport into the national railway network and provide a direct railway transport option to the city center, at a time when passenger traffic at the airport is experiencing continuous growth.
Tangier Airport received over 1.7 million passengers during the first seven months of the current year, an increase of approximately 9 percent compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, the final data related to the length of the line, the number of stations, and the stopping points are still undetermined in the pre-qualification announcement, while information circulating suggests the possibility of constructing a double and electrified line extending for about 22.5 kilometers, details that remain dependent on what the final technical file of the project will include.
