US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that American forces had sunk 159 Iranian ships, indicating that the war with Iran could reach a "good conclusion" before the November elections.
Trump added, during an election rally in North Carolina, that the United States had kept the Strait of Hormuz open, and said that "all Iranian ships that were sunk are at the bottom of the sea," announcing that Iran's naval and air capabilities had suffered "great destruction."
He continued that the American blockade imposed on Iranian ports had prevented, during the past months, the passage of any ship heading to Iran, according to him.
Trump praised the American forces, saying that the conflict "will end soon," and added that Washington had eliminated Iran's nuclear capability, stressing that the United States would not allow Tehran to possess nuclear weapons.
He said the war could end "a little after the elections, but maybe not.. maybe before the elections," referring to the midterm elections scheduled for November.
