HIBAPRESS – Abdelatif Baraka
The historic wall of the city of Taroudant witnessed a new collapse in the area of Darb Al-Muallim Muhammad, in the Bab Targhount region. This incident is the third of its kind in less than two months, bringing back concerns about the condition of this historical landmark and the safety of its remaining parts.
The latest collapse did not result in any human casualties, according to available data. However, the recurrence of these incidents raises concerns about the safety of passers-by and residents of adjacent buildings, and prompts questions about the urgency of intervention to protect the site and avoid new collapses that could have more serious consequences.
In light of these successive events, demands are renewed for intervention by local authorities, the municipal council, and the relevant departments to conduct a comprehensive technical assessment of the wall, secure the threatened sections, identify the causes of the collapses, and expedite the necessary measures for the restoration of the damaged parts according to standards that ensure the preservation of its historical and architectural value.
The third collapse in a short period places the issue of protecting the walls of Taroudant before a real test, balancing the necessity of preserving the city's historical memory with the duty to ensure the safety of citizens, pending the disclosure of the results of technical inspections and the practical measures that will be taken to address the situation.
