HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zerouih
Amidst the throes of expatriation and the corridors of creativity and sports, distinguished Moroccan figures emerge, raising the nation's flag high in foreign lands, embodying the authenticity of identity and openness to the world. In this new episode of the series introducing Moroccan competencies residing abroad, we approach a distinguished cultural and athletic personality who has excelled in combining physical rigor with poetic transparency.
This concerns the champion Moulay Khalid Lakhlofi, a son of the city of Nador, who spent the flower of his youth – about twenty-six springs – in Morocco, before deciding to settle in European lands, specifically in the Dutch city of Venlo. There, he proved his worth as one of the prominent figures who enjoy great respect and appreciation from the Moroccan community and other segments of Dutch society.
On the athletic front, Moulay Khalid is a shining name in the sport of Aikido, having crowned his distinguished career by obtaining a third-degree black belt (3rd Dan) in the Netherlands. His athletic passion was not limited to martial arts alone; he also drew from the wellspring of team sports, having been a former player for the Nahdat Chabab Nador handball team in the eighties, in addition to his rich experiences as an educational supervisor in the Popular Childhood Movement.
Alongside the rigor of sports, Lakhlofi's heart beats with a refined and pure creative sense; he is a brilliant poet in the art of free verse. What is truly admirable is the multiplicity of languages in his creativity and communication, as he composes his poems in his mother tongue, Riffian Amazigh, alongside Moroccan Darija, Classical Arabic, as well as Spanish, French, and Dutch.
The contributions of this champion are not limited to the sporting and cultural fields; his giving extends to the professional and administrative spheres, as he works as an employee at the municipality of Venlo, the Netherlands. There, he serves as an honorable link and an active element serving the public interest, enjoying great trust and appreciation from both the Moroccan community and the institutional environment.
The story of Moulay Khalid Lakhlofi briefly encapsulates the path of a self-made Moroccan who, thanks to his will and determination, has made a distinguished name for himself abroad. He is a living example of the Moroccan immigrant who is an ambassador of his culture, combining the authenticity of roots with the openness of modernity, thus remaining a source of pride for the city of Nador and for Morocco as a whole.
