Tensions flared in the Rozzano area, located in the southern suburbs of Milan, following an incident where a young Moroccan man was assaulted, followed by other assaults targeting Moroccans, as the Italian Public Prosecution opened an investigation into the possibility of motives linked to racist hatred.
The incident dates back to a fourth-decade woman accusing a 24-year-old Moroccan man of grabbing her arm as she was heading to her car. Following her screams, several passers-by intervened and assaulted him before security forces arrived.
According to HIBAPRESS sources, the young man was subsequently subjected to another assault after being identified during a gathering of residents. Meanwhile, a neighborhood in Rozzano witnessed patrols and groups of residents scouring the streets in search of those suspected of involvement in drug trafficking or acts of violence.
Italian authorities are seeking to clarify the circumstances of the events and determine responsibilities, at a time when the assaults have raised fears of the tension escalating from the original incident to acts of violence with a collective and racist nature.
