HIBAPRESS – Mohammed Zerouih
A peaceful and warning protest took place today, Sunday, at the black spot near the "Total" station in Jaadar, Nador province. The protest was called for by the Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights in Nador (Regional Branch), with broad participation from civil society activists, citizens, and road users.
Strong slogans were raised during this protest under the slogan "Protecting our lives is everyone's responsibility," following the worrying increase in the pace of fatal and serious traffic accidents witnessed in the area, especially at the road section adjacent to the aforementioned gas station and the entrance to Azghanghan city via Beni Sidel.
Participants in this protest expressed their deep discontent and condemnation of the continued dangers threatening their lives at these black spots, which have claimed the lives of many innocent victims, emphasizing the need to consolidate the principle of linking responsibility with accountability and to vigorously defend the inherent right to life and physical safety.
In this context, the most prominent demands of the protesters centered on the urgent need to establish traffic calming measures to reduce the speed of traffic and mitigate risks, enhance road safety by providing adequate signage, designating pedestrian crossings, and updating public lighting, in addition to finding radical solutions to end the continuous bloodshed and permanently ensure the safety of citizens.
The protest concluded with human rights organizations and citizens emphasizing that "citizens' lives are a red line and the right to life cannot be postponed," while threatening to take further peaceful escalatory steps in the near future if silence continues and the relevant authorities do not respond to their just and legitimate demands.
