In recent weeks, several Moroccan coasts have witnessed the discovery of a number of speedboats, the “phontoms”, in the middle of the coast. The territorial authorities found them stranded on the beaches of the north and center of Bouznika. Two days ago, the authorities of Tarfaya, in the south of the Kingdom, discovered a boat “Phontom” whose speed is estimated at 300 nautical miles per hour. its price exceeds 250 million centimes.
The repetition of this situation clearly reveals the return of international drug trafficking activity on the Moroccan coasts, using these international networks for this type of boat which is difficult to monitor by the coastguards between Morocco and Spain.
Moroccan authorities, together with Spanish authorities, have foiled several international drug trafficking operations on the coasts of both countries, while efforts are still below the level required to confront international traffickers, which requires the creation of new, more precise methods to deal with the scourge of smuggling.
