Jamaica's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, praised on Wednesday in New York the Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2797, which expresses "full support for the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy to facilitate and conduct negotiations, based on the Moroccan autonomy plan, emphasizing that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could be one of the most viable solutions."
This stance came in a joint statement signed by Johnson Smith and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, following discussions they held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The statement praised "the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco to achieve international consensus and create momentum for the autonomy plan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI."
During their discussions, Bourita and Johnson Smith agreed to continue political consultations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Jamaica, and to coordinate their positions on issues of common interest.
