The Royal Gendarmerie's National Brigade, in coordination with the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie in Tetouan, has initiated investigations and inquiries into suspicions of drug smuggling using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the Al-Alayyin area, under the province of M'Diq-Fnideq.
According to available data, the investigations resulted in the arrest of five individuals suspected of being linked to the case. Three of them were released after being questioned, while two others were held pending further investigation, in coordination with the competent public prosecution. This is in anticipation of completing legal procedures and determining the nature of the acts attributed to them.
Circulating data indicates suspicions of drug smuggling activities originating from the coasts of Ksar Sghir towards the Spanish coast, with the potential use of drones in these operations. These hypotheses remain under investigation pending confirmation or denial by the competent authorities.
This case brings to the forefront the security challenges posed by the geographical nature of the northern coasts of the Kingdom, especially in the areas stretching between Al-Alayyin and Ksar Sghir, given the multiplicity of coastal routes and the evolution of smuggling methods using modern technological means.
In the same context, local data indicates the presence of wanted individuals in the area for suspected involvement in criminal activities, as well as suspicions related to the trafficking of hard drugs, which reinforces calls for intensified security monitoring and combating various forms of crime.
In parallel with these actions, a number of residents have expressed their satisfaction with the establishment of a regional command for the Royal Gendarmerie, praising the professionalism of the new personnel working at the Royal Gendarmerie's judicial center in Fnideq and their good treatment of citizens, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening human and logistical resources to confront the security challenges in the region.
Investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the competent public prosecution to uncover all the circumstances of the case and determine potential responsibilities, emphasizing that the presumption of innocence remains in effect for the suspects until final judicial rulings are issued.
