The Plurinational State of Bolivia announced on Wednesday in New York its readiness to open a diplomatic representation in Rabat, in addition to a "commercial office in the city of Dakhla, which will serve as a platform for Bolivian products to access African markets."

This announcement came in a joint statement signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and his Bolivian counterpart, Hector Francisco Huanca Gutierrez, following their discussions at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the General Assembly.

In this statement, Bolivia took note of "the autonomy proposal submitted by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007, and considers that it can constitute a path to move forward in the negotiations aimed at reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution."

The two countries also reiterated in this document "their commitment to the fundamental principles of international law, particularly respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs."

Concurrently, both sides praised the inauguration of "a new phase in their bilateral relations, based on the principles of political pragmatism, mutual respect, solidarity, and mutual interests stemming from permanent dialogue and cooperation in various areas of common interest, for the benefit of their two brotherly peoples."

Morocco and Bolivia also committed to "intensifying high-level political dialogue and establishing a renewed institutional framework, which will enable them to keep pace with their common aspirations towards a more structured, dynamic and future-oriented relationship."

In this context, the two ministers agreed to "further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries, politically and economically, particularly through holding the first session of the bilateral political consultation mechanism – established by the two parties in 1999 as a permanent political and technical mechanism – which will sustainably structure bilateral political dialogue."

At the end of this meeting, the two ministers oversaw the signing of an agreement on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, official, service, and special passports, as well as a memorandum of understanding between the diplomatic academies of both countries.
