HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Mousaed
The final results of the seat distribution for the Oriental Region in the 2026 legislative elections have shown a reshaping of the political balances in the region, as the participating parties secured a total of 30 allocated parliamentary seats, distributed between 23 seats at the local level and 7 seats for the regional constituency.
The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) was able to impose its dominance on the electoral scene in the region by securing a total of 9 seats (8 local seats and one regional seat), thus achieving a balanced and comprehensive presence across all eight provinces of the region (Oujda-Angad, Nador, Driouch, Berkane, Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif, and Figuig) with an average of one local seat per province.
The National Rally of Independents (RNI) party came in second place after obtaining 7 seats (6 counted locally and one regional seat), thanks to winning local seats in six provinces (Oujda, Nador, Driouch, Berkane, Jerada, and Figuig), while it was absent from local representation in the provinces of Taourirt and Guercif.
The Independence Party came in third with a total of 5 seats (4 local and one regional seat), maintaining its electoral base in the provinces of Oujda, Berkane, Driouch, and Guercif.
For their part, the Justice and Development Party (PJD) and the Popular Movement shared fourth place with 3 seats each:
– Justice and Development Party: Managed to secure two local seats in the cities of Oujda and Nador, in addition to its regional seat.
– Popular Movement: Was distinguished by its local concentration in the provinces of Taourirt and Figuig, alongside the regional seat.
The representation of other parties was limited to only one seat for each. The Constitutional Union party succeeded in securing one local seat for the Nador province (without regional seats), while the Socialist Union and Progress and Socialism parties each achieved their single seat through the regional list, without being able to secure any seats in the local constituencies of the eight provinces.
At the local level, the provinces of Oujda-Angad and Nador witnessed the fiercest competition, with each allocated 4 seats. They were followed by the provinces of Driouch, Berkane, and Figuig with 3 seats each, while the share of the provinces of Guercif, Taourirt, and Jerada was limited to only two local seats.
The 7 seats allocated to the regional constituency were distributed equally, with one seat each for: the Authenticity and Modernity Party, the National Rally of Independents, the Independence Party, the Justice and Development Party, the Popular Movement, the Socialist Union, and Progress and Socialism. This contributed to protecting the parliamentary representation of some opposition parties and smaller parties within the House of Representatives for this region.
