HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The Head of Government, Fatima Ezzahra Mansouri, commented on the refusal of the Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party, Abdelilah Benkirane, to come to the PAM headquarters as part of government consultations.
Mansouri said in a brief statement to the media on Thursday that she had contacted all parties represented in Parliament to hold meetings and consult on forming the government.
Mansouri added that all parties are united by one thing, which is the nation, pointing out that each party is "free" regarding its choice to sit at the consultation table or not.
This was after Benkirane expressed his refusal to hold a meeting with Fatima Ezzahra Mansouri, the designated Head of Government, at the headquarters of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) as part of the ongoing consultations to form the new government.
Benkirane explained, in a live broadcast on his Facebook page, that he had received a phone call from Mansouri regarding the meeting. He initially agreed to meet her, considering that she now represents an official state institution. However, he refused to attend the headquarters of the Authenticity and Modernity Party.
Benkirane demanded, as revealed in the live broadcast, that she come to him since she was the one who requested the meeting. Additionally, according to him, the matter would not necessarily be about participating in the government, because his party had already decided its position and announced its alignment with the opposition days ago.
