The regional office of the National Syndicate of Taxi Professionals in Driouch, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union, has expressed its deep dissatisfaction with the continuous and soaring rise in fuel prices. In a escalatory step reflecting the extent of tension, the office announced in a statement its full readiness to engage in protest actions, coinciding with the commencement of discussions on a potential increase in transport fares with various bodies operating in the sector.
The statement clarified that this persistent high cost has had a direct and negative impact on the professional and daily lives of those working in the transport sector in general, and taxis in particular. The syndicate considered the decision to liberalize fuel prices, and what it termed the "greed of distribution companies," has turned into a daily nightmare that disturbs the sleep of professionals seeking to preserve their livelihoods without success.
The syndicate also highlighted the absence of any professional or social stability that protects drivers from the burden of rising essential goods prices, attributing the escalation decision to the silence of the concerned authorities and their failure to take accompanying measures to alleviate the severity of this crisis. It described the support allocated to professionals as "weak and insufficient," asserting that it accumulates constraints and further deteriorates the living conditions of the working classes in the sector.
In conclusion to its statement, the syndicate issued an urgent appeal to the supervisory authorities to intervene immediately to address what it described as the "structural crisis" plaguing the sector. It also called on the regional authorities in Driouch to bear their historical responsibility by seriously engaging with the demands of the professionals and opening channels of responsible dialogue that can preserve purchasing power and achieve the desired social stability.
