HIBAPRESS – Sefrou
The residents of the municipality of Ras Tabouda in the province of Sefrou, according to a complaint addressed to the head of the territorial commune and local authorities, are experiencing a worrying environmental and health situation due to the presence of an uncontrolled waste dump near residential areas and a number of facilities that see daily citizen traffic.
According to the complaint, significant amounts of waste and rubbish are being collected in an area close to the residents, with repeated outdoor burning operations being recorded. This causes the spread of smoke and odors, raising concerns about its potential impact on the health of the residents and the environment.
These concerns are exacerbated, according to the complainants, by the proximity of the waste collection site to the weekly market, which sees citizens from various regions, as well as the presence of two educational institutions, a middle school and a high school, cafes and commercial shops, in addition to family homes close to the site.
The residents confirmed in their complaint that the continued burning of waste at this site has become a source of annoyance and concern, especially for children, students, and individuals who are present near the location daily. They called for urgent intervention to curb the situation and address its causes.
The complaint urged the authorities and the commune to intervene immediately to stop the burning of waste, remove the rubbish dump, and find a solution that respects applicable health and environmental conditions, in addition to verifying the waste management procedures, identifying responsibilities, and taking measures to protect residents and nearby facilities.
The complainants also stated that they possess photographs and video recordings that document, according to them, the condition of the waste dump and the burning operations, confirming their readiness to present them to the competent authorities.
This complaint once again raises the issue of waste management in rural areas and the extent to which safety, health, and environmental conditions are respected in the selection of waste collection sites and their management, especially when it concerns locations close to educational institutions, residences, and markets.
The residents, according to the complaint, are awaiting intervention from the concerned authorities to assess the situation on the ground and take the necessary measures to protect citizens and mitigate potential environmental damage.
