In the framework of proactive preparations to confront the repercussions of the cold wave and snowfall affecting some areas in the province of Sefrou, the province's governor, Ibrahim Abou Zaid, chaired an expanded meeting of the vigilance and coordination committee tasked with monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to mitigate the effects of weather fluctuations. The meeting, attended by authorities, representatives of security services, and regional directors of decentralized concerned services, served as an opportunity to assess readiness levels and enhance coordination among various stakeholders, emphasizing the necessity of comprehensive mobilization of human resources and logistical means to ensure rapid intervention and provide support and assistance to the population, especially those residing in areas and villages most vulnerable to the cold wave.
The meeting stressed the importance of adopting a proactive approach based on early warning and timely intervention, by mobilizing various available means, alongside informing and raising awareness among the population about all developments related to warning weather bulletins. These measures fall within the framework of the national plan to mitigate the repercussions of the cold wave and climate fluctuations, which the Ministry of Interior has been implementing since 2009, through a participatory approach involving various sectors and stakeholders, aiming to reduce risks and protect residents in affected areas. In this context, the activation of the command and vigilance center at the provincial level was emphasized, along with vigilance and monitoring committees at the level of districts, municipalities, and local administrations. Medical convoys and mobile health units are being scheduled and organized, particularly for vulnerable groups, especially pregnant women, in addition to providing shelter and humanitarian services for the homeless. Measures also include providing heating facilities in educational institutions located in areas experiencing significant temperature drops, as well as distributing food aid to needy families, ensuring the organization and security of these operations in coordination with local authorities and security agencies. Regarding breaking isolation, enhanced coordination between security services and provincial departments responsible for equipment, transport, and logistics was emphasized to proactively intervene on road sections that may be cut off due to snowfall or rising river water levels, and to work on opening roads and ensuring access to affected villages. At the end of the meeting, the governor of Sefrou province called on various services and stakeholders to maintain a state of mobilization and vigilance, and to be ready to intervene in record time whenever necessary, emphasizing the need to utilize available resources, each according to their responsibilities, to confront the repercussions of adverse weather conditions. This mobilization comes in the context of the regional authorities' commitment to reducing the impact of the cold wave and weather fluctuations, ensuring the continuity of essential services, and protecting the population in mountainous and rural areas that remain most vulnerable to the repercussions of sharp drops in temperature and snowfall.
