HIBAPRESS – Guelmim
The olive market in the Houara Oulad Rahou commune, Guelmim province, witnessed the launch of the olive sale and marketing operation, a significant step towards organizing this vital economic activity, which is experiencing increased activity during the harvest season and attracts a large number of traders, farmers, and professionals.
This development comes after field intervention by the Governor of Guelmim province, who led a series of consultative meetings with olive professionals' representatives, with the aim of addressing the issues that accompanied the organization of the new market, listening to the demands of traders and farmers, and seeking practical solutions to ensure the resumption of their commercial activity in more favorable conditions.
These efforts culminated in an agreement that included a review of the fees imposed on professionals, along with taking measures related to improving facilities and strengthening the organization of work within the market, following a meeting between the provincial governor and olive professionals' representatives.
The leadership of Houara Oulad Rahou also witnessed, on October 8th of this month, a draw to determine the beneficiaries of the commercial space, with the participation of 160 registered traders, as part of organizing the utilization of the shops allocated for marketing olive chain products.
The transfer of sales activity to the dedicated market is expected to positively impact traffic on National Road No. 15, known as the "Sakka" road, by alleviating the traffic pressure associated with the gathering of traders and professionals and the stopping of vehicles along the road during the olive marketing period.
This step is particularly important given the risks associated with heavy traffic during the season, as organizing commercial activity away from the shops located along the road is expected to contribute to reducing random stops and minimizing risk factors that could cause traffic accidents, while emphasizing that measuring the impact of this measure remains linked to the development of traffic and the actual accident statistics during the season.
The importance of the new market is not limited to the traffic aspect alone, but extends to providing a dedicated space for commercial activity, improving the conditions for receiving traders and farmers, and contributing to the organization of buying and selling operations, thereby enhancing the economic dynamism associated with the olive chain within the province.
This process highlights the importance of field intervention and dialogue with professionals in managing local files, as the meetings led by the provincial governor contributed to bridging viewpoints on the issues raised and creating conditions for the resumption of commercial activity within the market.
With the start of the marketing operation, attention is focused on the extent to which this experiment succeeds in achieving its objectives on the ground, whether in terms of improving the working conditions of professionals or alleviating the pressure on National Road No. 15, making the organization of the olive market a step with economic, organizational, and road safety dimensions.
