The city of Laayoune is preparing to host the second edition of the Green March International Pétanque Tournament on Sunday, November 1st, 2026, at the Al-Hizam Sports Hub. This initiative, organized by the Municipal Pétanque Club of Laayoune, is part of the celebrations of the first anniversary of the Unity Day and the fifty-first anniversary of the Green March.
This event aims to enhance the sporting presence of the city of Laayoune and the southern provinces of the Kingdom by bringing together pétanque practitioners for a competitive event that fosters sportsmanship and exchange among participants, contributing to the promotion of this sport and the expansion of its practice base.
The tournament is held under the honorary presidency of the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, the President of the Laayoune Commune, the President of the Regional Council, and the President of the Provincial Council of Laayoune. The interim committee managing the Royal Moroccan Federation of Pétanque will oversee its organization, in partnership with the Municipal Pétanque Club of Laayoune.
The competitions are expected to attract a number of participating players and teams, in an atmosphere that combines sporting challenge and the commemoration of national milestones, thereby strengthening Laayoune's position among cities hosting sporting events.
The organizing committee has allocated a total financial envelope of 19,800 Moroccan Dirhams for prizes. The first-place winner will receive 6,000 Dirhams, while the second-place winner will receive 3,000 Dirhams, in addition to other cash prizes for the remaining ranks and final rounds.
Regarding participation, the committee has set Saturday, October 31st, 2026, at 9 PM, as the final deadline for registering trios wishing to compete. The tournament matches are scheduled to begin on the morning of Sunday, November 1st.
This initiative comes as part of efforts to revitalize the sports scene in the city of Laayoune and encourage the organization of international events, providing athletes with opportunities to compete and exchange experiences, and enhancing the sporting influence of the southern provinces in conjunction with national celebrations.
