The Fum Al-Wadi Municipal Council held its session on Friday, October 16, 2026, after it was postponed twice due to lack of legal quorum, following the attendance of members who had previously missed the previous two sessions.
The council's deliberations witnessed the approval of the second item related to the municipality's openness program, in contrast to the rejection of the budget project, after the majority of attending members voted against the project, a move reflecting the continued difference in viewpoints among council components regarding the management of municipal affairs.
In a statement following the conclusion of the session's work, the head of the Fum Al-Wadi municipality, Mohammed Ayash, considered that the council's convening took place in a democratic atmosphere characterized by discussion and exchange of opinions, emphasizing that the opposition to the budget project falls within the democratic practice guaranteed by applicable laws, which ensures each member the right to vote according to their conviction.
Ayash stressed the importance of the members opposing the project clarifying the reasons that led them to take this stance, allowing for a discussion of their observations and a reconsideration of the budget's contents, and working to develop a consensus formula that enjoys the acceptance of the council's components.
The head of the municipality affirmed that the budget is not the property of the president or any specific member, but rather a management budget related to the normal functioning of municipal facilities and the management of the municipality's affairs, and it directly reflects the interests of the residents and the services provided to them.
Ayash called on the various council components to deal with the budget file in a spirit of responsibility, allowing for overcoming differences and finding common ground that ensures the continuity of municipal facilities and services.
The rejection of the budget project places the Fum Al-Wadi municipality in front of the challenge of bringing the viewpoints of its council components closer, with a view to reaching an agreement on managing the next phase, in a way that meets the requirements of local management and the expectations of the residents.
