Agadir is preparing, alongside the celebration of the Unity Day on Sunday, October 25, 2026, to host the second edition of the global race "IRONMAN 70.3", with an anticipated participation of around 1200 professional and amateur athletes representing approximately 63 countries, in an international sports event through which the city aims to enhance its tourist radiance and consolidate its position as a destination for major sports competitions.
The participants will undertake a sporting challenge combining three endurance sports, including swimming for 1.9 kilometers, cycling for 90 kilometers, and then running for 21.1 kilometers, totaling 113 kilometers.
The importance of this competition is not limited to the physical challenge, as the upcoming edition will award 50 qualification slots to the "IRONMAN 70.3" World Championship, scheduled for August 28 and 29, 2027, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, divided equally between women and men.
Alongside the main competition, the event program includes activities aimed at the public, such as the "IRONKIDS" children's race and the "Night Run" of six kilometers, as well as a sports and exhibition village in Unity Square on Agadir's Corniche.
The event also seeks to showcase Amazigh culture and the local identity of the Souss-Massa region, and to leverage the international presence of athletes and their companions to stimulate tourism and economic activity in the city.
This edition is supported by regional and local institutions, in line with Agadir's direction towards diversifying its tourist offerings and not limiting itself to traditional beach tourism, by attracting international events capable of extending visitors' stays and stimulating the accommodation, restaurant, transport, and services sectors. The most significant challenge remains to transform this sporting event into a sustainable gain for the city, by improving organization and reception, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and enhancing the benefit of local stakeholders from the economic returns of the event.
