The Finance Bill project for the year 2027 aims to approve new tax amendments on tobacco products, foremost among them being electronic cigarettes.
The proposed provisions stipulate an increase in the tax imposed on electronic cigarettes from 50 to 100 dirhams per unit, starting from January 1, 2027, an increase of up to 100 percent compared to the current level, with an expansion of its scope to include various types of these products, whether they are refillable devices or single-use ones.
The proposed tax approach also includes some components of electronic cigarettes, without being limited to products containing nicotine, as it extends to include nicotine-free types as well, according to the provisions in the bill.
These amendments, if adopted in their final form, are expected to raise the tax cost associated with these products, which may lead to an increase in their market prices.
The proposed changes are not limited to electronic cigarettes but extend to traditional cigarettes, as the Finance Bill project includes gradual tax increases during the period from 2027 to 2031, which may in turn affect the prices paid by consumers.
On the financial side, the government is banking on collecting revenues of approximately 19.32 billion dirhams from taxes imposed on manufactured tobacco during 2027, an increase of about 1.6 billion dirhams compared to the previous year, according to the data in the project.
