Heba Press

Today, Friday, the marine fisheries sector announced the ban on the collection and marketing of shellfish products in the area designated as Umm al-Tayur-Chouika, in the Essaouira region, until this marine area is completely cleaned.

The sector explained in a statement that “the results of the analyses carried out by the National Institute for Marine Fisheries Research, at the level of the oyster farming area classified as Umm al-Tayyur-Shweika in the region of Essaouira, showed the presence of marine toxins in mussels at levels exceeding acceptable standards.

Therefore, the sector recommends that consumers only purchase packaged products with health labels and sold in authorized points of sale (official markets).

The same source warned that shellfish promoted or sold in an unregulated manner do not present any health guarantees and therefore constitute a threat to the health of citizens.
