When the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast brought the Continent together around football

Coming to attend the final of the CAF African Cup of Nations between Ivory Coast and Nigeria at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Abidjan, Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, considered that the competition had held all her promises and that she had also contributed to bringing the Continent together around football.

President Infantino, who was present in Doha (Qatar) the day before to follow the final of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup of Nations, therefore experienced from the stands the third coronation of the Elephants, 2-1 winners of the Super Eagles.

“Congratulations to Ivory Coast for its victory in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations,” said President Infantino. “The curtain has fallen on this magnificent edition, but I think it is also appropriate to salute Nigeria and the winners of the various awards. I thank CAF and all its employees for organizing this spectacular competition. Thank you also to the supporters, who came in large numbers, and to all the people who contributed to the success of this event. Africa always knows how to come together to celebrate football!”

Immediately afterwards, the FIFA President took part in the trophy presentation ceremony. He took the opportunity to add that seeing so many member associations represented was “very special” to him. “Football unites the world,” he recalled.
