The IOC has repeatedly stressed that the sport must find a suitable new governing body, likely by early 2025, for it to be allowed back on the Games calendar.
The rift between the International Boxing Federation (IBA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has widened over Iman Khelif, with AIBA accusing the Algerian boxer of being ineligible to compete against women, due to a test she underwent which revealed the presence of male chromosomes in her gender.
The story sparked controversy and the IOC attacked the IBA, saying that Iman had been the victim of an injustice by the IBA.
IBA President Omar Karimlev of Russia responded by publicly attacking Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, further deepening the divide between boxing and the Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is expected to decide in the coming months whether to keep or exclude boxing from the programme of the next edition of the Olympic Games.
