Trump would oppose federal law banning abortion, Vance says
Hibapress / Radio-Canada
Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance says Donald Trump would not support a national abortion ban if elected president and would veto such a bill if it landed on his desk.
I can absolutely commit to that.Mr. Vance assured when asked on the show Meet the Pressof the NBC network, if he could commit that Mr. Trump would not impose such a ban. Donald Trump’s view is that we want individual states, their individual cultures and their unique political sensibilities to make these decisions because we don’t want an endless federal conflict over this issue.
The Ohio senator also insisted that the former president would veto such a law if it were passed by Congress.
Mr. Vance’s comments come after Democrats spent their national convention last week attacking Donald Trump for his role in appointing the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, a decision that ended the constitutional right to abortion in the United States and paved the way for bans and restrictions in Republican-led states.
