Morocco-Senegal… Signing of two agreements to strengthen cooperation in the field of transport

Yesterday, Thursday in Rabat, two framework agreements were signed between Morocco and Senegal to strengthen cooperation in the field of transport.
This happened during a working meeting held by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdel Jalil, with the Senegalese Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, Malek Ndiaye, who was accompanied by the Senegalese ambassador in Rabat, Sinabou Dial, and a high-ranking delegation from his country.
The framework cooperation agreement was signed, the first between the National Office of Railways and the National Company for the Management of the Regional Express Train of Senegal, and the second between the Railway Training Institute and the National Company for the Management of the Regional Express Train of Senegal. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the areas of railway maintenance, road and air transport, in addition to discussing ways to improve road safety conditions in both countries.
On this occasion, the two ministers praised the distinguished relations between Morocco and Senegal in the field of transport, and stressed their common desire to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation ties, particularly in the railway sector.
The two ministers renewed their commitment to work together to strengthen cooperation in the transport sectors by finalizing the draft agreements between the two countries, developing a work program to activate the agreements signed between the two countries, working to strengthen cooperation in the areas of logistics, airports, air and maritime transport, and activating the work of the Joint Committee on International Road Transport.
The two officials also called for strengthening mutual support between the two countries at international institutions, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Maritime Organization and the International Transport Forum, as well as unifying visions and efforts to develop cooperation in various transport sectors.
In this context, Mr. Abdeljalil invited his Senegalese counterpart to participate in the fourth Global Conference on Road Safety, which will be held in Marrakech in February 2025. For his part, the Senegalese official expressed his country’s desire to benefit from the Moroccan experience in road safety in the field of transport.
In a statement to the press, Mr. Abdeljalil stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Morocco and Senegal in the field of transport, stressing that it was agreed to strengthen networking and communication between the two parties with a view to reaching a higher level of cooperation, particularly in the railway sector.
For his part, Ndiaye explained that his visit to Morocco was an opportunity to learn about the “qualitative” achievements of the Kingdom in the field of urban and interurban mobility, particularly in the railway sector, stressing that this visit also allowed the Senegalese to learn more about best practices and the pioneering Moroccan experience in this field.
It should be noted that this meeting is part of the official visit made by the Senegalese delegation to Morocco, from August 27 to 29, during which it carried out a series of field visits to Tangier, Fez and Rabat to learn about the Moroccan experience in the field of maintenance of high-speed trains and the railway industry.
