Human rights organisation proposes to create listening and guidance centre for victims of violence

On August 29, 2024, an important meeting was held at the office of the Regional Director of Health and Social Protection in Agadir, to propose a project to create a listening and referral center for victims of violence to cooperate and coordinate with the integrated unit for the care of women and children victims of violence at the neighboring Ould Taima hospital and the rest of the actors involved in other sectors.

The meeting was attended by the Regional Director of Health and Social Protection in Agadir, the Acting Head of the Public Health Service and the regional manager in charge of the National Health Program for the care of women and children victims of violence, as well as the Secretary General of the National Organization for the Defense of Human Rights and Public Freedoms and other members.

The Secretary General of the National Organization for the Defense of Human Rights and Public Freedoms opened the meeting with a detailed presentation on the importance of the project. He also indicated that the center will contribute to providing rapid support and assistance to victims of violence, emphasizing the urgency of creating such initiatives in light of current social challenges.

The Regional Director of Health and Social Protection expressed her great admiration for the idea of ​​the project, stressing its importance in strengthening cooperation between the health and social sectors. She announced that care units for victims of violence are being built by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, which reflects the ministry’s commitment to achieving these goals.

On the other hand, the director recommended the need to create an independent center, outside the hospital, specialized in offering listening and guidance services to victims of violence, with the possibility of establishing subsequent partnerships. The acting head of the Public Health Department also proposed an important recommendation to create a shelter for victims of violence, to accommodate them for 48 hours until their problems are resolved, which represents a qualitative addition to the project.

The need to hold further meetings to discuss the next steps in the implementation of the project was highlighted, as the idea of ​​the accommodation center was an important addition to the project, which requires careful study and planning. In this context, fundamental recommendations were highlighted, including: continuing communication and coordination between the organization and government institutions; expanding the partner base to provide the necessary support for the project; and working to provide sufficient and qualified staff to ensure the provision of effective services within the center.
