Like the different regions of the Kingdom, the General Population and Housing Census (RGPH) 2024 was launched on Sunday in the different prefectures and provinces of the Casablanca-Settat region, under the sign of the commitment and mobilization of the teams in charge of the operation as well as the citizens.
The census teams, under the supervision of the Regional Directorate of the High Commission for Planning (HCP), began in the morning to meticulously crisscross the different cities to collect data of crucial importance for the planning of national and local development and public policies during the coming years.
These teams, who have undergone in-depth training in preparation for this census which will continue until the 30th of this month, highlight the sense of support and involvement of citizens who have shown themselves to be cooperative during this first day, thanks to an awareness campaign by the HCP which highlighted the need for citizen engagement to make this large-scale national operation a success.
In Mohammedia, one of the prefectures of the most populated region of Morocco, the operation is going well thanks to the resources mobilized to achieve the objectives set. According to Rachid Taoufiki, Provincial Supervisor of the RGPH in Mohammedia, “the operation was launched under good conditions.” For him, the series of training sessions for the teams of investigators and the awareness campaign helped to mobilize everyone.
The teams responsible for carrying out this census were chosen on the basis of distance and face-to-face training, at the end of which 835 elements were selected to cover all the municipalities of Mohammedia, including 15 municipal supervisors, more than 260 controllers and 643 investigators, he explained.
The teams can count on the availability of 90 cars and a number of modern work tools, noted Mr. Taoufiki, who welcomed the “smooth running of the operation and the fruitful cooperation of local authorities, the services of the Ministry of the Interior and the various local actors.”
Furthermore, the citizens interviewed by the HCP teams in Mohammedia, including people with special needs, did not seem to have any problem answering the questionnaires. Some of them said they were aware of the strategic nature of this census and the importance of everyone’s commitment to its success.
An operation with strategic scope for the Kingdom, the RGPH 2024 will provide a real image of the population and housing, according to the HCP.
The operation, which is based on a double questionnaire to collect data from households, involves the mobilization of significant human resources with 55,000 agents (investigators, controllers and municipal supervisors).
