Russian imports of Moroccan fish and seafood have fallen by about a third this year, according to official trade data.

In this regard, statistical data from the European Market Surveillance Service for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EUMOFA) revealed that Russian imports of Moroccan fish and seafood decreased three times in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.

This decrease recorded in Russian imports of Moroccan fish is due to the significant decrease in imports of pelagic fish, which constituted the largest share of total imports, since they represented 98% in volume and 86% in value. at the same period last year.

EUMOFA added that the sharp decline in fish imports from Morocco is also due to the production of canned fish in Russia, which is due to several factors, including the deterioration in the value of the ruble, labour shortages, marketing difficulties, in addition to logistical problems that hamper the transport of raw materials and finished products.

Russia is highly dependent on Moroccan marine products, especially in light of the strong and solid relations between Rabat and Moscow, which is reflected in the value and volume of economic exchanges between the two countries.
