Heba Press – Casablanca
In statements previously reported by Heba Press, Rafael Mariano Croce, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said that Morocco, alongside 12 countries around the world, is preparing to join the club of nuclear states.
The statements of the world’s top nuclear energy official were not taken seriously by many observers, but reality further confirms the information, since Morocco has indeed decided to develop its system and infrastructure to become a nuclear state, in light of the will of the country’s authorities. the highest authorities of the Kingdom so that they benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes such as energy.
It is worth noting that many Moroccans do not know that our country has a nuclear research reactor, as the Kingdom operated the research reactor in 2003 and it is called “TRIGA Mark II” and it was created with the full support and coordination with the United States of America.
The Maamoura reactor is a Moroccan nuclear reactor manufactured by the American company General Atomic. Morocco acquired it in the early 2000s as part of an agreement concluded in 1980 between Morocco and the United States of America. The reactor is located at the National Center for Nuclear Studies, in the heart of the Maamoura forest, in the Sidi Tibi district, south of Kenitra. It is affiliated with the Moroccan National Center for Nuclear Research and is considered Morocco’s first nuclear reactor.
Morocco has indeed obtained approval from the International Atomic Energy Agency to begin work on developing its “peaceful nuclear program,” as the North African country appeared to meet the technical, administrative, legal, security and management conditions, and has the human qualifications, experience and scientific competence to launch similar programs, intended to be adopted in the field of electric power generation and water desalination.
