Nador Lawyers Protest Justice Ministry’s Rejection of Draft Laws

Heba Press: Abdel Salam Belgarbi, Mohamed Zariouh

This morning, Wednesday, September 11, the Nador Bar Association organized a demonstration in front of the Court of Appeal, to protest against a set of provisions contained in draft laws relating to the professional practice of lawyers approved by the Ministry of Justice.

Lawyers participating in the protest raised slogans denouncing these laws, calling on Justice Minister Abdel Latif Wehbe to cancel these projects. This protest movement comes in the context of the Moroccan Bar Association’s decision to intensify and organize protests in all courts in the Kingdom.

These protests come after the Civil Procedure Bill was passed by the House of Representatives and sent to the Second Chamber, in addition to the Criminal Procedure Bill which was sent to the legislative mechanism. Some provisions contained in the Civil Procedure Bill have drawn widespread condemnation among the Kingdom’s defense authorities, considering that they violate the constitution and ignore professional and societal proposals aimed at improving the laws.
