In a dramatic development for the Moroccan economy, the Kingdom recently overtook China to become the European Union’s largest trading partner in the automotive sector.
Surpassing expectations and economic giants, Morocco has established itself as a leader in the European automobile market, recording a turnover of 15.1 billion euros and thus overtaking China which generated 13.6 billion euros. This exceptional performance is part of a growth dynamic supported by strategic investments in the industrial sectors of Tangier and Kenitra. It should be noted that in terms of volume, China remains in first place with 782,000 vehicles exported, compared to 536,000 for Morocco.
At the heart of this rise is Morocco’s adoption of an industrial strategy focused on innovation and excellence in production. The Tangier and Kenitra complexes, equipped with the latest technologies, produce highly sought-after models such as the Dacia Sandero, the best-selling car in Europe since 2017, as well as the Citroën Ami, which is strongly investing in a new automotive segment, small two-seater electric vehicles.
With the goal of producing one million vehicles annually by 2025, Morocco is not only aiming to increase the quantity but also to improve the quality and sustainability of its production. The infrastructure developed around the Tangier and Kenitra hubs supports an integrated and environmentally responsible supply chain, thus reinforcing Morocco’s commitments to European environmental standards.
