The residents of New Salé continue to await the tramway network extension project, which was supposed to enhance connectivity between the area and the other neighborhoods of Rabat and Salé, at a time when mobility is experiencing increasing pressure due to urban and population growth.
Tramway network development programs had included an extension of 23.7 kilometers to include, alongside other areas, New Salé, within a period extending between 2023 and 2028.
A second phase of 21.3 kilometers was also programmed towards other neighborhoods during the period 2025-2030.
In this context, the Rabat Region Mobility Company had previously launched a call for tenders related to preparatory works and the diversion of networks associated with the tramway network development, with an estimated cost of 7.056 million dirhams.
However, the passing of the announced deadlines without the commencement of the project's works in New Salé has raised a number of questions about the reasons for the delay, and whether it is related to technical, real estate, or financial constraints, or to the reordering of urban transport priorities.
