Chariot Limited, a British energy company, has announced significant progress in the drilling of the Anchois-3 well, located off the coast of Morocco as part of the Lixus offshore gas project.
Initial data reveal the presence of gas reservoirs in the B sands, one of the main targets of the drilling campaign. However, the company said that additional analyses will be required to fully assess the potential of this discovery.
Chariot holds 30% of the Lixus license, in partnership with Energean (45%) and the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco, which owns 25%. Drilling continues with the aim of exploring additional targets below the current level.
The Anchois-3 well plays a central role in Chariot’s strategy in Morocco. This site is considered a potential gas field capable of providing domestic energy supplies, as well as export opportunities, strengthening Morocco’s position in the global energy market.
As part of its exploration efforts, Chariot also evaluated the Anchois Footwall reservoirs, which were found to contain primarily water. As a result, the company decided to plug and abandon the pilot well before focusing its efforts on the main well.
