The Ministry of Transport and Logistics responded to the proposal to establish a maritime line between Tangier and Al Hoceima.
The ministry said in response to a written question from MP Abdul Haq Amghar that the proposal is of great importance as part of efforts to improve the passenger shipping sector.
The ministry confirmed that it seeks to improve the quality of services provided to travelers and diversify them, noting that the establishment of an internal maritime line between Al Hoceima and Tangier requires a thorough study to ensure its economic and financial viability.
The ministry added that the success of the project depends on the ability of maritime services to compete with other means of transport, such as road and air transport, which are characterised by shorter journey times and lower costs, which could limit passenger demand for maritime transport.
The ministry stressed that investment in the maritime transport sector remains open to Moroccan investors, saying it is open to studying and encouraging all investment initiatives related to this sector, including maritime transport lines in the northern regions of the Kingdom.
